Aerial Hoop Tips to Get Your Straddle

Aerial Hoop Tips to Get Your Straddle

A straddle is such a lovely way to mount the hoop. It looks like it should be fairly easy but it’s actually really hard to get a straddle. Especially being able to lift into it, hold the position and come down gracefully! I receive so many messages from people asking for tips on how to get a good straddle. So I’ve put together some conditioning exercises that will target the muscles you use for a straddle and that use the same movements to help your body work out what it’s supposed to be doing!

Aerial Hoop Conditioning Exercises

Aerial Hoop Conditioning Exercises

I’ve been really enjoying aerial hoop conditioning lately. I struggle to do enough during a normal practise session to ache anymore (yay!) but sometimes I do just want to feel the burn! I definitely feel it when I do conditioning! Doing specific strength exercises has so many benefits.

Back Flexibility Stretches

Whether you do aerial silks, aerial hoop or pole dance, having good back flexibility has so many benefits! When you get more advanced there are certain moves that you have to be flexible to even be able to attempt (Rainbow Marchenko I’m talking about you!). Or if you have your sights set a little lower, having a more flexible back makes even a simple aerial hoop Delilah look amazing!

Pole Conditioning Exercises

Pole Conditioning Exercises

Love it or hate it, conditioning is one of those things we just know is good for us. It improves our grip strength, builds strength in our muscles and makes everything else feel so much easier! I tend to do 5-10 minutes at the end of every practise and then the occasional session just conditioning (I have a love/hate relationship with these!).

Leg Stretches to get your SPLITS

Leg Stretches to get your SPLITS

The splits, I’d never really thought about them until I started doing pole and aerial arts, now sometimes I feel like I can’t think about anything else! Having a flat split seems to be everyone’s goal at the moment, and once you have a flat split it’s all about trying to achieve the oversplit!

How to Warm Up for a Pole/Aerial Session

How to Warm Up for a Pole/Aerial Session

Do you warm up before you practise? A warm up when you’re training alone is one of those things that’s so easy to forget about. It’s something that we all know we should do but actually doing it when there’s so many amazing moves we really want to try. . . . . well, it’s tempting to miss it out and just jump straight on!
