A catchers is one of the first inverted moves you learn on the aerial silks. It can be hard to get your head around how to wrap your leg, but once you have nailed that it’s a great move to do! The catchers is the starting move for lots of other moves. There are also lots of different ways into and out of it, making it an amazing move to include in combinations and routines.

Aerial Silks Tips To Get Your Straddle

A straddle is one of those really annoying moves that looks like it should be fairly easy. It’s actually really hard to get a straddle. Especially being able to lift into it, hold the position and come down gracefully! I receive so many messages from people asking for tips on how to get a good straddle. So I’ve put together some conditioning exercises that will target the muscles you use for a straddle and that use the same movements to help your body work out what it’s supposed to be doing!

Tips to Nail that Trick!

Everyone has that one trick they just can’t do. There’s no reason you can’t do it, you’re strong and flexible enough. You can do lots of harder moves but for some reason this one move is just not happening. It’s so frustrating! Luckily you’re not alone, almost everyone has a nemesis move. (Mine are: pole – janeiro, hoop – barrel rolls, silks – splits balance.) I got so annoyed at not being able to do them that I just avoided them but now I’m determined to revisit the moves I should be able to do and nail them!

Ways to get into an Aerial Silks Hiplock/Hipkey

A hiplock is also commonly known as a hipkey. It is a move in which you have the silks wrapped around your upper thighs and roll into them so they come across your hips and lock you into place. Once you’re in it you need to squeeze everything! It should feel secure and not painful, which is my favourite kind of move!

I love drops on the aerial silks! For me, drops are the best (and scariest) thing about silks. I think I may be a secret adrenalin junkie. It’s always best to start off small, but even the smallest drops can be terrifying the first time you try them. There are so many drops out there, and new ones being created all the time. You’ll never run out of new ones to learn.
